Eyes Can Tell A Lot on Us

Have you ever looked into someones eyes? Eyes can tell alot about a person - some eyes are happy, some are bright, some eyes look sad, full of pain, dark and lost or full of life and passion.
Now notice a child's eyes they are brillant, full of hope for a wonderful tomorrow and happy even if it is when they get up in the mornings to ride the bus to school. A child's eyes also shed tears of frustration at times. As we begin to grow up we still cry at times, crying doesn't always mean one is sad it can mean one has happy tears too.
So remember - eyes can tell a lot on us!

I am so proud of this boy - my son!!!! He earned 5 merit badges at his Court of Honor and is always forgiving of me for never sewing on his other "previous" hard earned Merit Badges. Now that I see he only has 9 of his badges sewn on his sash I guess it is time I do my part to make him the Boy Scout he truly is!!!!

Day of Terror - Remembered

Today represents the 8th anniversary of that terrifying day when two planes flew into the Twin Towers in New York instantly killing thousands. Two other planes, which were hijacked, crashed in a field in Pennyslvania and also into the Pentagon. I saw the damage done to the Pentagon months later and Bryan witnessed "ground zero" when he was in New York a year later. I still get shivers up my spine and tears still come to my eyes when I remember back to that sad day when America, as we knew it, changed and where so many innocent lives were taken. This is a day I think we will always remember where we were when we heard, for the first time, about these attacks and it is something that will forever be imprinted in our hearts. We will never forget those who perished in these attacks even if they were not known personally to us, I still have heard their names read aloud on TV in their honor; nor will we forget the many men and women who are now fighting for our continued freedom.

I read of a man who stood to speak

at the funeral of a friend.

He referred to the dates on her tombstone

from the beginning....to the end.

He noted that first came the date of her birth

and spoke of the following date with tears,

but he said what mattered most of all

was the dash between those years.

For that dash represents all the time

that she spent alive on earth

and now only those who loved her

know what that little line is worth.

For it matters not, how much we own,

the cars....the house....the cash.

What matters is how we live and love

and how we spend our dash.

So think about this long and hard;

are there things you'd like to change?

For you never know how much time is left

that can still be rearranged.

If we could just slow down enough

to consider what's true and real

and always try to understand

the way other people feel.

And be less quick to anger

and show appreciation more

and love the people in our lives

like we've never loved before.

If we treat each other with respect

One Year Ago.....

It will be one year on August 22nd that we received that heartwrenching phone call at midnight that Bryan's cousin, Dr. Lansing Ellsworth, his son, Dallin, who just applied to medical school, along with seven members of Lansing's medical staff and their pilot had been involved in a fatal plane accident in Moab, Utah.

You never really grasp the information you are receiving as being real. It's more like a dream -or being in a movie. The information received instantly changed lives, changed dreams and changes the way you view things.

There is a reason for everything - everything under the stars. We know that, but living that is different, much more difficult to do. Life does go on, miracles continue to happen, spiritual experiences are felt, memories of their legacy of compassionate, caring individuals remains to all who loved Lansing and Dallin.

Life is not always easy . . . I guess it was not meant to be - was it?

Happy Birthday Taylor

Taylor turned 15 on August 3rd - and what a party she had - food, swimming, watching a movie in the theater room, giggles and lots of laughter. It almost seems impossible that 15 years ago she was born premature at 28 weeks, weighing just 2 pounds 8 ounces and having to spend the next three months of her little life in the NICU at Primary Children's Hospital undergoing many surgeries. She is our little miracle from above.

Even though she was in critical condition for many days, weeks and even months after she was born - Having limited contact with her, having to be in sterile hospital clothing to protect her from our germs, dailey visits to the hospital, lots of near misses, tears, and desperate prayers, never forgetting our sweet Taylor may have been in critical condition she was never alone. The Savior was there with her too. He was with her until everything became stable and He is still with her to this very day. The randon tender mercies of a loving Heavenly Father is always a reminder that we indeed have a purpose and are loved from Heaven above.

My neice, Meghan and her husband are expecting their first baby in December so

I decided to try my hand at making something "homemade and from the heart." I made

the quilt and thought it turned out pretty good for my first time. The other little outfit

was just a bonus - already made from the store!!!

As Derek found out - having teeth like they do in "Hollywood" comes with pain!!! He had to have two teeth pulled, which were suppose to come out some time last year and was causing his permanent teeth to veer in directions not meant for teeth to grow in!!! He was a real trooper though. No pain -- no gain!!

We all went down the Alpine Slide - it was fast and soooo fun!!

The zip-line was probably our favorite ride - everyone, but Taylor was brave enough to do it - even Tanner went on it!! We will continue to work on Taylor in hopes she will decide to go on it when we return this Fall!!

Tanner had so much fun riding his favorite ride "Frog Hopper" that the guy running the ride let him stay on it, free, for 30 minutes. This made Tanner's day!

Every year we make the drive up to Primm, which is 45 minutes outside of Las Vegas, and do some school shopping - our favorite outlet mall is there! We had a blast hanging out in the stores and playing games. It was a welcomed family get-away.

Michael Jackson Memorial Services

Michael Jackson passed away on June 25, 2009 of cardiac arrest. His life was shadowed by many controversary issues, but I for one, grew up with his music and have always loved the music he sang and enjoyed his artistic abilities. I watched his memorial services, on t.v., today and thought the services where done very well - he was remembered by his incredible talent, humanitarian service to the world, love for his family and it showed me that even though he had it all, he was still lonely, confused and suffered greatly. I just keep thinking, that even though he has left behind three beautiful children, his soul is free now and he can feel true joy and happiness.

Girls' camp was so much fun this year. We went to Clear Creek Ranch, just outside of Zion's National Park, and was able to stay in a ranch style cabin where we all slept in a bed. It was wonderful and a beautiful place. Taylor and the rest of the girls were able to go canoing in a lake that was behind our cabin, we went on a hayride and had some delicious meals! The theme was: Be a Star - Know Who You Are!

Every year DEREK has participated in the British Soccer camp that comes here, but this year TANNER got to attend. It was a fun week for them. They both ended up playing for team SPAIN, in different age groups, so they were the Red and White team!!

Taylor just completed 8th grade - she loves to cook and that is always a welcomed event in our home because she makes "great" meals. She has accomplished so much this year - she was on the honor roll the entire school year and she has a very compassionate heart. She says she would like to go into fashion design after high school!!!!! We love you Taylor and are so proud of you and the choices you make. You are an example to us all!

DEREK

Derek has now finished 6th grade and was awarded "The Student to Most Likely Be President" Award!!!!!! He loves to read, read and read. He was on the High Honor Roll all year in school and has many friends. We all look up to you Derek you are strong in character and such a great son. We love and appreciate you, especially your wonderful laugh!!

TANNER

Tanner is our "Dracula" in disguise here!!! As you can see, from his picture, he is our jokester in the family and loves to terrify us all with his scarry faces and hiding places he can jump out at us all. He just completed his last year of Pre-School where he developed a love for school. His comments, on the last day of school were "Mom, I am so sad - I love school and I don't want it to be over."

Monument Dedication - April 18, 2008 - Moab, Utah

On April 18, 2009 in Moab, Utah 120 family members gathered together at the accident site of our loved ones and a beautiful monument was dedicated to all 10 individuals who died in the plane accident on August 22, 2008. A depression in the hill where the plane made it's initial impact and the spot which everyone was instantly killed was where the monument was placed. I was not prepared for the emotions felt when I saw the crash site for the first time. The feeling around the accident was almost sacred. Scars from the plane skidding across the desert was still evident and I found a piece of yellow tape left behind. The plaque on the monument reads:

I have been having so much fun with Taylor this past month - I just have to share a few tidbits about her and why she is so special:
1. She has a ton of friends and is fun to be around.
2 She helps around the house "without" ever being asked too.
3. She has a great laugh.
4. She is very dependable and reliable - if she says she will do something - she will.
5. She is a hard worker and it shows by how she helps clean her dad's office every Saturday.
6. She is on the Honor Roll at school.
7. She was born 3 months premature and you'd never know it.
8. She loves animals - especially our dog, Rusty.
9. She is a wonderful daughter and I love being her mom.
10. She has a beautiful voice and I love to listen to her sing in her school choir as well as in the
Community Children's Choir she belongs too.

This afternoon we attended the live broadcast, at our Stake Center, of the Draper Temple dedication. The theme that began to form from each person who spoke was that visiting the temple regularly brings a sense of peace and spiritual strength when there are so many challenges we face on a daily basis.

Life's Journey Compared to that of the Pioneers

Elder M. Russell Ballard compared our life's journey to that of the pioneers. Life isn't alway easy. At some point in our journey we may feel much as the pioneers did as they crossed Iowa - up to our knees in mud, forced to bury some of our dreams along the way. We all face rocky ridges, with the wind in our face and winter coming on too soon. Sometimes it seems as though there is no end to the dust that stings our eyes and clouds our vision. Sharp edges of despair and discouragement jut out of the terrain to slow our passage. Always, there is a Devil's Gate, which will swing wide open to lure us in. Those who are wise and faithful will steer a course as far from such temptation as possible, while others - sometimes those who are nearest and dearest to us - succumb to the attraction of ease, comfort, convenience, and rest. Occasionally, we reach the top of one summit in life, as the pioneers did, only to see more mountain peaks ahead, higher and more challenging than the one we have just traversed. Tapping unseen reservoirs of faith and endurance, we, as did our forebears, inch ever forward toward that day when our voices can join in those of all pioneers who have endured in faith, singing: "All is well!" "All is well!"

You check out a book at your local library and notice a man accessing pictures of women at his computer terminal . . . you are silent.

You drive past a billboard with an inappropriate image and tag line on your way to work . . .you are silent.

Indecency has become the norm. We have become desensitized. Much of what used to upset us no longer affects us. Yet, we have the legal right and the moral obligation to decide the types of advertising, projects, businesses, and entertainment allowed in our community.

We have all been guilty of "being silent." Our silence has created a chain reaction across our nation, a reaction that is causing more harm than we will ever know. Your words, or lack of them, make a difference. Think about it. We challenge you to no longer be a "silent shopper."

Decorating for a Reception

I helped my friend decorate for her son's wedding reception. I thought everything turned out beautiful and the best part of it all was everything was donated - she did not have to pay for anything - not the tableclothes, chair sashes, ceiling fabric, etc. It was stunning. I guess it pays off to have friends in the wedding business!

5 Months - Lansing and Dallin Ellsworth

It's been 5 months today that Lansing and Dallin, along with 8 others from Lansing's medical office in Cedar City, were killed in an airplane accident outside of Moab, Utah. It's still difficult to know they are gone, but as Bryan and I contemplated memories of them today we were, once again, reminded of how fortunate we are to have the Plan of Salvation and such a loving Heavenly Father. Even though Lansing and Dallin are gone from this earthly life, they live in our hearts and have a legacy they can be proud about and we know we will see them again - one day.

My grandmother passed away Monday, January 12, 2009, in Thatcher, Arizona - she was a woman of integrity, loyalty and had a great testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ. She was 93 yrs. old at the time of her passing - her legacy is great and she will be missed.

I tried a new dinner roll recipe over Christmas and just love them - I have to share it with you.

Proof the following 3 ingredients:
2 cups warm water
1/2 cup sugar
2 T yeast

MIX
1/2 cup melted butter
2 tsp salt
3 eggs
2 T powdered milk
6-7- cups flour

Let rise, shape and let rise again. Bake at 400 degrees for 10-12 minutes.

Christmas Eve is when we have our annual "Christmas Eve Pajama Hunt" - kinda like a treasure hunt - but we use the real meaning of Christmas for the treasure map hints that the kids have to use in order to "find" their pjs. Each year the pajamas are hidden somewhere different and each year the clues are different, but it's always a magical time to see our children work together to find their Christmas PJ's!

Are You A Reason, Season or Lifetime Friend?

REASON
When someone is in your life for a reason, it is usually to meet a need you have expressed outwardly or inwardly. S/he has come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally or spiritually. S/he is there to meet a need. Then without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvenient time, s/he will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end. Sometimes s/he dies. Sometimes s/he walks away. Sometimes s/he acts up or out and forces you to take a stand. What we must realize is that the need has been met.

SEASON
When a person comes into your life for a season, it is because your turn has come to share, grow or learn. S/he may bring you an experience of peace or make you laugh. S/he may teach you something you have never done. S/he usually gives you an unbelievable amount of joy.

LIFETIME
Lifetime relationships teach you lifetime lessons. Those things you must build upon in order to have a solid emotional foundation. You must accept the lesson, love the person/people anyway, and put what you have learned to use in all other relationships and areas of your life.
